Dhanbad Public School has ever been known for its excellence in academic pursuit and extraordinary accomplishments in co-curricular activities as well as in the field of sports.
On the grand occasion of the 19th Annual Day Celebration of Dhanbad Public School, I accord a hearty welcome to our distinguished Chief Guest Mr. J.D.H.Guria and our Guests of Honour Dr. Manas Saha and Mr. Sanwar Prasad Agarwalla and to all the parents and invitees on behalf of the Management Committee, staff and students of the school.
I am extremely elated to announce that our 14th batch of Std - X and 11th batch of Std- XII students passed out successfully with 100% result this year. Anuja Beotra of Std- XII secured 89% in the Arts stream and became not only the topper of the school, but also the proud topper of Jharkhand. Manyata Maniyar scoring 92.8% was the topper in the Commerce stream and Ishu Sanwaria scoring 93.2% was the topper of the Science stream. Swati Kumari was

the topper of Std X with 95.2%. One student of Std-XII and four students of Std-X were awarded merit certificates by the CBSE for their outstanding performance. On the basis of Std-XII results, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has nominated 10 students of our school for a scholarship of Rs. 12000/- per annum for their higher education at the graduation level and Rs. 24000/- per annum for the post- graduation level. The school is granting full feeship to 6 students securing above 90% and half feeship to 44 students scoring above 80% on the basis of Std-X results . 114 academically bright students are being awarded with merit cum means scholarships and two students are being awarded scholarships for their exceptional performance in sports. 44 students are being awarded certificates for 100% attendance. Our students participated actively in the various academic & co-curricular activities organised by the school round the year like Folk Singing, Dance, Quiz, Recitation and Debate Competitions. Besides these , they also participated in the Inter School Patriotic Song Competition organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad and won the first prize in the Hindi song category and the second prize in the Sanskrit, at the district level.

Our students bagged seven gold , eight silver and nine bronze medals in the Avantika Essay Competition. In the Inter- school English Extempore competition organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Dhanbad, Shreya Bhattacharya of Std- XII got the 2nd prize. Our students came out with flying colours in the Rangoli, Art and Craft Competitions organised by the Lions Club of Dhanbad
To begin with the achievement of our students in the sports arena, I feel immensely proud to announce that in the District Olympic Games, our school became the overall champion in Wushu, Judo and Boxing. In the 3rd Dhanbad District Wushu Championship, too ,our school was the overall champion. In the Junior Jharkhand State Wushu Championship, we bagged three gold and two silver medals and Rajesh Rao was declared the best player for 2008. In the 4th Sub-junior Jharkhand State Wushu Championship, our students won two gold , four silver and six bronze medals. Asif Ali was declared the best player of Jharkhand for 2008. Now, let's talk about the financial awards. Sumit Ritolia has received a stipend of Rs. 36000/- for excellence in Martial Arts. Eight students of our school-

Vikrant Singh, Nikhil, Rakesh and Sujan Chatterjee have received a scholarship of Rs. 6600/- each for excellence in sports from the Sports Authority of India, Patiala. In the CBSE East Zone Judo Championship, Nikhil Kumar and Sujan Chatterjee won gold medals and were also declared the best judoka of the year. Arnab won the bronze medal. I feel very proud to announce that Sujan Chatterjee has also cleared the written test for NDA. The girls team of our school brought laurels to the school by winning the runners up trophy in the CBSE Cluster II Basketball Championship. Our school team lifted the winner's trophy in the Under-13 and Under -18 Mini Inter-School Basketball Championship and also in the Dhanbad District Olympic Games in Basketball. We were the runners up in the Under 16 Basketball Championship and the Youth Basketball Championship. We were also the winner in the Dhanbad Olympic Netball Championship. Anjali Raina represented Jharkhand in the Mini Basketball Championship held at Bhilai. Moumita Ghosh, Preeti Kumari and Anjali Raina have been selected to represent Jharkhand in the National Basketball Championship to be held in Bhubaneshwar in January 2009.

The school has arranged a crash course of Narayana, specially for the students of Std- XII to make them excel in
the Board exams and competitive exams. We aim at equipping our school with the best and latest technology and so, we have made our school e-friendly now. Our students will henceforth be taught with the aid of multi-media and e-testing modules. For this, we are training our teachers and making them computer literate. Two batches of e-friendly teachers have already become well-versed in the effective use of multi-media and e-technology.
Our school has two battalions of NCC, one for girls and one for boys. Our students are regularly attending the NCC Camps. I feel immensely proud to announce that Payal Dutta, our student, has been recommended as a Lieutenant in the Officer's Training Academy, Chennai. She has also been the best cadet at the All India level in the year 2006. She participated in the Youth Exchange Programme, Singapore in 2006 as an Indian Delegate. She is the first girl from Dhanbad to achieve such unparalleled glory.

I cannot complete the report without mentioning that all that the school has accomplished has been possible only because of your persistent support and co-operation. I am sincerely grateful to the Management committee and specially to our Chairman, Dr. P.N.Gutgutia, for his far sightedness, guidance and support. PROSPECTUS

Dhanbad Public School has emerged as a shining star on the horizon of educational endeavour. It is set in picturesque surroundings, with the Dhangi Hills in the foreground and lush green fields behind and offers an ideal schooling for children.
It is sponsored by Shiksha Vikas Trust, Dhanbad. The School is situated on the Dhanbad-Govindpur Road, Near Bhuinphore Mandir, in a pollution free environment, away from the din and bustle of city life.
The school has an adequate water supply, modern sanitary arrangement, electric lighting and power.
The school aims atthe education of children from all communities to the extent possible.
The school prepares girls and boys in separate blocks for the examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi (CBSE), (10 + 2). The medium of instruction is English. However, Hindi has a vital role in the curriculum and is taught in all the classes. Sanskrit is also taught from Std. IV. To give quality education, the school has a knowledgeable, well trained and dedicated staff.
The school also provides scholarship covering the whole or a part of the expenses on education in the school.
AIMS OF THE SCHOOL
It is our endeavour to bring up the students, so that they develop the ingredients of a full life, and a harmonious and integrated personality with particular reference to our Indian background and culture.
MONTESSORI SECTION
We have started a new section in the Nursery from March, 2005 designed for the children aged 21/2 year-31^ year.
The number of children in each class will be approximately 30 with two teachers to ensure individual attention. The Montessori class room furniture and equipment is scaled down in child's size and is within easy reach. There is nothing in the "prepared environment" which the child cannot see or touch. The child has the freedom to move and to choose any activity capturing his interest. The Montessori guide naturally stimulates child's learning without interfering with his natural desire to teach himself.
This system awakes the child's spirit, imagination and allows him to choose his activities. It helps the child to observe, question and explore ideas independently.
CURRICULUM
Exercises of Practical Life : For the development of fine motor skills, the children perform activities related to the refinement of physical and motor movements like - watering and care of plants, clothespin clamping, folding napkins, handling of dressing frames etc. Favourite activities include drawing, colouring and Craft. Yoga, Dance and Games help in the development of gross motor skills.
Sense-rial Activities : Develop and sharpen his senses like Gustatory, Tactile, Chromatic and Dimensional sense through intelligent exploration of material world.

Mathematical Ability : Helps in the understanding of number and its application in arithmetical operations aided by Montessori apparatus like geometrical solids, shapes, abacus, sandpaper numbers and number rods.
Language Development: Oral activities like story telling sessions, rhymes and conversation develop the consciousness of the spoken language which is composed of various sounds.
To encourage talent of all kinds and stretch the capacity of each individual, the work and activities are divided underfour headings.

ACADEMIC WORK :- School is organised into three sections.
i) Nursery Section (L.KG. and U.KG.) : Learning while playing is the sole motto of this section. Using innovative teaching methods, children are taught reading, writing and number work.
ii) Junior Section (Std. I - V): This is organised as a separate preparatory school with its own self contained building and ground. The basic tools of learning are reading and writing. Therefore, more stress is given on teaching of languages both Hindi & English and Number Work, so that they can comprehend the materials common in business and higher education and can assimilate whatever they learn. Computer training is given to students from Std. Ml onwards.
iii) Senior Section {Std. VI - XII): In this section more stress is given on Science and Mathematics which are the stepping stones to higher learning and professional courses such as Engineering, Computer Science, Medicine and Commerce.
The library and laboratories are well equipped with sufficient modern instruments so that each student can carry out experiments independently. Various vocational training courses will be undertaken in the nearfuture.

CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
Creative activities are usually group activities. They serve to channelise emotional and physical energy of the children. They also provide preliminary training in some of the vocations in which the children are likely to specialize in future. These activities also satisfy the natural instinct in man for creation, thus helping in natural growth.
The school offers a wide range of activities:
1) MUSIC, ART and CRAFT: Painting, Needle Work, Dance, Singing, Instrumental music.
2) OTHER HOBBIES : Flower arrangement, Gardening, Rangoli, Repair of Electrical Gadgets,
Claymodelling, etc.
3) KARATE, YOGAandNCC.
In addition to these hobbies, there are organised groups engaged in cultural activities.

NATURE & CULTURE
Kalavati Udyan is a new addition to the beauty of "Dhanbad Public School". The lush green open space, a pool of water, variety of trees and flowers and a hut depicting "Mini Jharkhand" together create among the students, a concern for plants and rich cultural heritage of Jharkhand State.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
These are absolutely necessary for the healthy development of students. Table-Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Handball, Football are among the team games provided. The facilities for Roller Skating and Swimming have also been provided.
The Children have to learn and acquire skills in athletics and physical training. Participation in physical activities is compulsory except for children exempted on grounds of health.
The school has ample place for these activities. There is also provision for taking children for trekking and hiking.
TRAINING IN RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR
The school is so arranged that children, who have an aptitude for leadership, get an opportunity to learn, to take up and carry out responsibilities efficiently. A healthy respect for rules and habit of cooperation is developed, so as to make the children realise that no real freedom is possible without discipline and co-operation.
HOSTEL
The school provides the facility of a spacious VIMLA BANSAL GIRLS' HOSTEL located on the western side of the school campus. At present it will accommodate 50 girl students. A separate Prospectus regarding admission in the Hostel is available at the school office. The proposal of BOYS' HOSTEL is under consideration.
ADMISSION
The application for admission must be filled in the forms provided by the school. No admission will be made until the candidate passes a test conducted by the school authorities. A student who has attended a recognised school previously will be admitted only after presentation of school leaving certificate from that school. If a child is admitted during the month, fees for the whole month will have to be paid.
The class to which a child is admitted is decided exclusively by the school on the basis of the child's age, the result of the admission test, and the Principal's interview. The school reserves the right to reject or admit any child notwithstanding anything stipulated in this prospectus.
AGE
A child should be of 3 years 6 months or more in MARCH for admission in L.KG. SCHEDULE OF FEES
The school fee covers 12 calendar months and is as follows:

TRANSPORT FEES
The bus fee is Rs. 240/- per month (Beyond Gaya Bridge to school), Rs. 230/- per month for other places. Jharia and Kirkend Rs. 350/- per month and Van fee Rs. 3507- per month. Transport charges are to be paid for 12 months.
RULES FOR PAYMENT OF FEES :-
Fees should be paid in six terms as follows:
APRIL, JUNE, AUGUST, OCTOBER, DECEMBERS FEBRUARY

Fees can be paid at the ICICI fee collection counter between 8.00 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. in the
Junior Girls' Block and 10.45 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. in the Senior Boys' Block on the working days from
MONDAY TO FRIDAY only. Fee can also be paid at the ATM counter ICICI Bank by Cheque only.

In case of late payment, a fine of Rs. 20/- per month will be charged from the 16th of the due
month.

The annual charges are to be paid by 10th of April 07. Otherwise the name of the student may be
struck off the roll without notice.
LEAVE RULES
1. No leave will be granted without a written application from the parents/guardians. Grant of leave
on account of birthday, marriage, feasts and similar other reasons will be at the Principal's
discretion.
2. Continuous absence for more than 15 days without leave will be treated equivalent to withdrawal
of the student from the school and his/her name will be struck off the roll. A medical certificate
should be produced for absence due to contagious or infectious disease.
3. Students who do not return promptly after holidays and remain absent for more than 15 days will
be considered equivalent to withdrawal and their names will be struck off the roll.
WITHDRAWAL
1. A clear calendar month's notice in writing or a month's fee in lieu of such notice must be given
before a pupil can be withdrawn.
2. Transfer certificates are not issued until all dues of the school are settled.
3. Students can be asked to leave the school on any of the following grounds.
a. non-payment of school dues.
b. Stealing the school stationery and using unfair means in examination
c. found involved in any act of indiscipline or immorality
d. found involved in damaging school property & any such act that endangers the life of
others.
4. A student who fails twice in the same class will not be permitted to continue his/her studies in the
schoof, especially if he/she is over age for that class.
•fndent should join the school in the new session on the first working day, otherwise his/1" name may be struck off the roll without notice.
PROMOTIONS
1. Promotion is granted on the whole year's performance of a student, hence the importance of
regularity in attendance and work is imperative.
2. Minimum attendance for appearing in annual examination should be 75% or more.
3. Normally, a student will be required to secure 40% marks in every subject to get promotion.
4. Regarding scholarship, promotion orfailure, the Principal's decision is final.
REMEDIAL CLASSES
To enhance the performance of the students, the school arranges remedial classes. It is compulsory for the students to attend. Otherwise, a fine of Rs.10/-per class will be imposed.
SCHOLARSHIPS
To help promising students whose parents cannot afford to pay the full fees of the school, a few scholarships are awarded:

a. Scholarship is awarded to students according to the merit list of the class in the annual promotion
examination, provided they secure an aggregate of at least 75% marks. These are awarded
annually, irrespective of the financial position of the parents.
b. Two scholarships are awarded on merit cum-means basis to promising students,
SCREENING TEST
A screening test will be held for the students of class X and XII before the filling up of the CBSE form. Only those who are able to secure the qualifying marks will be allowed to fill the form.

GENERAL DISCIPLINE
We believe in discipline and firmness. Any breach of common sense or of good manners or action likely to lower the good name of the school is regarded as a breach of the school discipline. The school reserves the right to expel a student whose conduct is harmful to other students. Immorality, grave insubordination or contempt of authority and breaking bounds are always a sufficient reason for immediate expulsion or rustication.
VALUABLES
It is not advisable for students to bring valuable articles to the school. The school will not be responsible for the loss of books, valuables etc. They are advised to bring their belongings in a bag or case that can be properly locked.
ACCIDENTS
Though the school takes all normal precautions for the safety of students, it does not take any responsibility for accidents.
VISITING HOURS
Visitors, including parents should not visit the class rooms and are not allowed to interview the class teacher during school hours. They may meet the teachers after seeking appointment after class hours, preferably on days of Parents Teacher meeting. If they have any grievance or they want to make any suggestions, they may do so to the Principal between 8.00 a.

SCHOOL RULES.
1. Parents and Guardians will be bound by the school rules in afl respects. They may be changed
from time to time. In all matters of dispute, the decision of the Principal shall be binding on the
Parents/Guardians.
2. Students should be habitually clean and always be neatly dressed. The school uniform should be
worn on all working days. Students who are not in proper uniform wilf not be allowed to entertheir
classrooms.
3. Non- Sikh boys should get their hair cut at regular intervals.
4. Students should not leave the class without the permission of the teacher. They should also not
leave the school premises without prior permission from the Principal.
5. No books (other than text books), newspapers, periodicals may be brought to the school without
the permission of the Principal or class teacher
6. Parents are advised not to give money to their wards to buy edibles etc. from the hawkers outside
the school premises.
7. Lending or borrowing money or other articles is strictly prohibited.
8. It is strictly forbidden to throw any thing at anyone.
9. Students should maintain strict discipline while going from one class to another.

10. Care must be taken to preserve the school property. Students are expected to make good, the
damages to furniture, library books or any other asset.
11. Cycles must be locked. Students must not ride around in the School Compound on bicycle.
12. Private tuitions are strictly discouraged by the school authorities. However, in special cases, the
Principal may give permission.
13. Regular attendance is compulsory. Students who remain absent from class with some valid
reason should get it entered in the school diary by their Parents or Guardians.
14. Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, disobedience, lack of co-operation and misconduct,
injurious to the normal working of the school or any such action which may endanger the life of
others are sufficient reasons for the dismissal/ expulsion of a student.
15. Bursting crackers or splashing colours during Diwali/Holi in the school premises is
strictly forbidden. Non-compliance of these instructions can result in expulsion from the
school.
16. Bringing Cellphones to the school is strictly prohibited. If caught, the cellphone will be
confiscated and a fine ofRs. 1000/- will be imposed.
17. The name, class and section of the pupil should be clearly marked on all belongings of the
student. Blazers and jerseys should also bear a marked label indicating the name of the students.
18. Dhanbad Public School caters to education from L.KG. to Class XII. Therefore, it is expected that
the juniors should be treated with utmost love and affection, while the juniors should show
respect to their seniors.
19. Students should speak in English during their stay in the school campus.
20. Students should not give gifts to the teachers without the permission of the Principal.
21. Parents are advised to see that the children prepare their lessons daily and do their homework
regularly.
22. Parents are advised not to send their children to the school when they are suffering from any
contagious disease like chicken pox, measles, mumps, whooping cough or conjunctivitis.
23. No student will be allowed to go to his/her relative's house from the school without the written
permission of the Principal and the consent of the parents.
BUS RULES
1. A clear four months' notice in writing must be given before the bus facility provided by the school
can be withdrawn.
2. A student should board the bus designated for his/her stop. He/She should not go by any other
bus/any other means or get down at any other bus stop without the prior permission of the
Principal. Noncompliance of this may result in the withdrawal of the bus facility by the school.
3. Buses will pick up children from the main road.
4. Parents should arrange to bring the children to the Bus stop and to take them back.
5. All the students using the School-Bus are expected to be on the right side of their bus stops at
least five minutes prior to the arrival time of the bus.
6. The bus will not wait for the late comers.
7. The students should stay away from the main road until the bus arrives.
8. No student should come near the front door of the bus until it has made a complete stop.
9. The front door of the bus is the only authorised entrance and exit.
10. The drivers are authorised to stop buses at the designated stops only, unless otherwise directed
by the bus in charge. The list of stops is prepared keeping in view the convenience and safety of
all bus commuters and is always subject to change.
11. When the bus is in motion, students must not move around in the bus. The commuters must not
have any part of their body out of the windows.
12. Object of any kind must not be discarded inside or thrown out of the bus.
13. Students will be held responsible for any damage of buses caused by negligence or vandalism.
14. Shrieking, shouting, unruly behaviour or any such action which may endanger the life of others
are sufficient reasons for the dismissal/expulsion of a student.
15. The driver's attention must not be distracted for any reason. Non compliance of this can result in
expulsion from school.
16. Courteous behaviour is expected at all times.
17. The teacher in the bus and student-bus-monitors are responsible for maintaining discipline in the
buses.
18. Any serious offence will be reported to the Principal.
19. Children who are not in the prescribed School uniform, may not be picked up by the bus staff,
unless exempted by the Principal.
20. In case of bus strike or break down of the bus or any other strike, an alternative arrangement
should be made by the parents and not by the school authorities to send their wards to school.
21. The parents are not allowed to board the school buses.

SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS

Session 2007-08

1.In the Inter school English Debate competition organized by the Inner wheel Club, Megha Bansal of Std XI was awarded the best Interjestor’s prize.

2.The Singing choir of the school won the first prize in the Hindi song category and the first prize in the Sanskrit song category in the Zonal Inter school singing competition organized by Bharat Vikas Parishad and qualified for the State Level competition in the Hindi song category.The Hindi choir grabbed the second position at the state level.

3. Rachit Agarwal was selected for the ‘Rudraksh’ Indian Steel idol.

4.Soman Sinha got the first prize in the Drawing competition organized by Khadi Gram Udyog

5.Shruti Narnoli and Aanchal Dua of std V qualified for the state level drawing competition organized by the Ministry of Petroleum and energy and were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000.00 each by the governor of jharkhand.


Sports


1.Sujan Chatterjee was awarded a scholarship of Rs 8000.00 by the sports authority of India (SAI).

2.The girl’s basketball team lifted the winners’ trophy in the Dhanbad District Youth basketball championship.


3. The Girls’ basketball team of the school lifted the winners’ trophy in the Dhanbad District Basketball Championship.

4.The girl’s team also bagged the second runner up trophy in the CBSE Cluster II Basketball championship.

5.Of the three students who participated in theEast zone Judo-championship held at Modinagar, one won a gold medal and the other two received silver medal. All of them were selected for the nationals.

6.Nikhil Kumar bagged a bronze medal in the CBSE national judo championship

7.Both the girls’ and boys’ team of the school lifted the winner’s trophy in Dhanbad Mini Basketball Championship.

8.In the Olympic day run, Shweta kumari of STD VIII got a merit certificate.

9.On the occasion of the Olympic day celebration, the basketball team of the girls was declared winners and the boys’ team bagged the runners’ trophy. On the same occasion, the girls’ netball team lifted the runner’s trophy.
